As the participants arrived for the opening ceremony of the Interschool, Colleges and University Drama Festival, they could be heard long before they were seen. A parade of more than 1,000 chanting children and young people, each group marching in order, made its way down Juba’s main roads with a police escort, complete with sirens.
The festival had been in the works for months. It was organized by the Woyee! Film and Theatre group, and supported by Internews through the i-STREAM Small Grants program. Thirteen participating schools and educational institutions from around Juba were selected through an extensive outreach program.
